National Nonprofit Aims to Close the Digital Divide in Cook County With its First Retail and E-Recycling Center in the Area

COOK COUNTY, Illinois (December 7, 2022) – PCs For People, a national nonprofit working to bridge the digital divide, is strengthening its presence in Cook County with its first retail storefront and e-recycling center in the area. Located at 4535 SW Highway, PCs for People will be the sole tenant of the 9500 sq. ft. retail space and warehouse. The location is expected to be fully operational by February 2023.

“We are excited for the potential impact our first retail space will have on the Cook County community,” said Erin Sherwood, Managing Director of PCs for People Illinois. “Our new location will offer services like digital skills training and no-cost e-recycling for businesses while making affordable computers and internet services available for eligible customers.”

Founded in 1998, PCs for People’s mission is to provide the opportunity for people with low income to benefit from the life-changing impact of computers, the internet, and digital skills. Since the inception of the organization, the necessity of having access to technology and internet access has grown exponentially. By having a storefront and new e-recycling center in Cook County, PCs for People will now have the ability to support families with low income to purchase high-quality technology through affordable retail, while also providing a valuable service to businesses through data destruction and e-recycling.
