Philadelphia, PA – September 9, 2025 – Big news for West Philly! PCs for People joined community leaders, neighbors, and partners to celebrate a major step forward in closing the digital divide — the installation of a new 5G antenna tower at 3.0 University Place.
This project is part of a $2.9 million federal grant to bring affordable, high-speed internet to more households across West Philadelphia. Together with the Community College of Philadelphia, Wilco, and University Place Associates, we’re making sure residents have the tools and connections they need to thrive in today’s digital world.
“Internet access is essential for school, work, and daily life,” said Ryan Hodson, Director of Network Operations at PCs for People. “This new 5G tower means more families will be able to connect reliably — and affordably.”
The 3.0 University Place tower is the second installation in West Philly, following one at New Market West, with another location coming soon. Along with new infrastructure, eligible residents can also receive low-cost laptops, modems, and digital literacy training through our program.
Local leaders, including Councilmember Jamie Gauthier, State Rep. Amen Brown, and representatives from State Sen. Vincent Hughes’s office, joined the ribbon-cutting, alongside partners from CCP, Wilco, and UPA. Their support highlights a shared commitment to creating opportunities for every West Philadelphian to get connected.
At PCs for People, we believe digital access is a right, not a privilege. This project is one more step toward a future where everyone — no matter their zip code — can participate fully in work, education, and community life.
