Starting Dec. 31, 2021, the current Emergency Broadband Benefit program by the FCC will transition to the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). This change comes after the passage of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act on Nov. 15, 2021. Overall, this is great news! While EBB was meant to be a temporary program to provide affordable broadband, the new ACP has a $14.2 billion budget and will be a longer-term benefit for eligible families. What Does This Mean For Our Current EBB Customers?
- As a current EBB customer, you do not need to take any action. You will be automatically transitioned to ACP.
- This change will take place on 12/31/21. There will be a 60 day transition period.
- The monthly internet benefit will change from up to $50 with EBB to up to $30 with ACP. For our PCs for People internet customers, ACP will continue to cover the full cost of our service ($15-16).
- The one-time $100 device benefit will be available for ACP customers if you have not already redeemed it through EBB. You will continue to need to have active EBB/ACP internet with PCs for People in order to redeem the device benefit with us. If you have already received a $100 computer benefit through EBB, you will not be able to use it again with ACP. If you have not already used the $100 computer benefit, you will be able to use it with ACP, but you will need to have an active internet subscription through ACP to use it.
- Customers will continue to manually renew their ACP benefit monthly through our EBB/ACP website.
- Customers can continue to freely switch EBB/ACP providers, but can only have one
provider at a time.
