PCs for People Partners with Gary Community Investments to create a Community Technology Hub in Northeast Park Hill
Denver, Colorado – In an effort to improve the lives of Colorado’s children and their families, PCs for People is partnering with Gary Community Investments, which includes The Piton Foundation, on the development of a Community Technology Hub in Northeast Park Hill at 6035 E. 38th Ave., Denver, CO 80207.
As part of this partnership, The Piton Foundation is providing PCs for People with $252,000 to build its capacity to renovate an existing 20,300 square foot warehouse in Northeast Park that will help close the digital divide across the region with low-cost refurbished computer devices, mobile high-speed internet, and technology training programs.
PCs for People is a nonprofit organization that recycles business electronics and provides refurbished technology to low-income households and nonprofits.
“This investment will enable PCs for People to support more than 10,000 low-income households annually across the region with critical technology access to succeed in today’s economy,” said Alejandro Dopico, Director of Operations for Colorado.
Gary Community Investments was established by Denver oilman Sam Gary to invest in for-profit and philanthropic solutions for Colorado’s low-income children and their families.
Through this partnership, PCs for People and Gary Community Investments will transform a 20,300 square foot warehouse by May 2020 into a fully operational Community Technology Hub with a:
- technology training center;
- retail store;
- computer refurbishing/repair tech stations;
- NAID AAA certified data security facility; and,
- R2 certified (Responsible Recycling) e-waste recycling center.
PCs for People and Gary Community Investments are hosting a pre-tour event for community leaders on Friday, February 21, 12-1:30 p.m. at the future Community Technology Hub (6035 E. 38th Ave., Denver 80207). Attendees will discover how we will create a community facility that will help close the digital divide with
- 10,000 computer devices distributed to Colorado families per year;
- provide more than 100 internships for high school students;
- conduct technology training programs for the entire community; and,
- recycle more than 1 million pounds of e-waste material annually.
