ALAMOSA, Colo (May 9, 2018) – On Friday, May 11, the families of 100 students who attend Alamosa Elementary School will receive low-cost desktop computers for personal home use. The donation is thanks to the collaboration of several community organizations including: PCs for People, Anschutz Family Foundation, WSB Computers, and volunteers from Energy Resource Center and Alamosa School District staff. The work of these organizations is to ensure that all families regardless of income limitations have access to technology and the ability to stay connected to valuable resources that can support the work that is done in school at home. All qualified families will get a computer that comes with a monitor, mouse, keyboard, installed software (Windows 10, Google Chrome, OpenOffice, Adobe Reader, an offline encyclopedia, and anti-virus protection), and a 90-day hardware warranty.


Media are invited to meet with representatives of organizations providing the computers and services, as well as to speak with families benefiting from these donations.

WHO: Representatives from PCs for People, Energy Resource Center and the Alamosa School District, along with Alamosa Elementary School families, will be available for interviews/photos.

WHAT: 100 computers will be donated to families whose children attend Alamosa Elementary School.

PCs for People is a nonprofit social enterprise focused on bridging the digital divide by providing affordable computers and Internet connectivity to low-income families and students.

The Anschutz Family Foundation generously provided a grant to PCs for People to support its work and make this event possible. The Foundation supports rural and urban Colorado nonprofit organizations that assist people to help themselves while nurturing and preserving their self- respect.

WSB Computer Services helps businesses of all sizes with cloud connectivity, computer services and products and supports.

Energy Resource Center creates a more energy efficient way of life and helps to improve the lives of vulnerable families by reducing the energy burden.

Alamosa School District has a mission to maintain a culture of educational excellence that promotes exemplary academic success and develops confidence and abilities to embrace the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
